ARC is 110% in favor of this flywheel, Tom Cole is apart of our committee, but I'm sure he'll give his thoughts very soon. We have no plans at all in going with the Aluminum in Box Stock. We will be helping promote the Billet Aluminum in the BP and Super Box classes, that's the classes that it was designed for and where it belongs. The 5.4lb min on the flywheel is why you'll never see it in the Box Stock classes, it would be cost prohibitive to get the aluminum to that weight. It is also the intention, from what I was told, that all of the importers will have this flywheel come with the engine in the near future.
Ok folks, This is what transpired at the meeting we had yesterday as to the flywheel issue. We reviewed a proto-type steel billet flywheel and with a few necessary engineering changes it met all of the criteria that we asked for. The criteria that was asked for are as follows, Must meet the existing minimum weight 5.4lbs so as not to create a significant performance gain(real or perceived), pricing to the racers (racer net to be $59), entire face of flywheel smooth to prevent coil from droping and distroying engine. The bottom line is that this flywheel should settle the valid concerns for all of us without becoming a issue of performance which we never wanted it to become. With the reduced price of engines now this will still put the basic engine in the racers hand at around $150-$160 including the new steel billet flywheel. The intent is to have 5000 flywheels arive on the initial shipment with a second order of 5000 to closley follow. The group that are bringing this flywheel to market have even discussed a discount to the racer on the first 30 days after 1st shipment is ready for distribution. They are willing to make a very significant investment inorder to make this happen so we can all sleep a little better from the saftey side of things. I commend the effort of all who have been a part of this and sincerely thank them for thier committment to the Box Stock movement and it's continued success. As with any production of parts there are certain time limitations. The manufacturer has stated that rapid prodution of this part is not a significate issue for them. Once final changes are made and approved it will be full throttle ahead. I will update as to production schedules as they become available. Should any other manufacturers have an interest in posible production of this part, feel free to contact the AKRA office, we welcome all requests and submissions. I want to also ask the racing community to be patient as we work through this process, because it will absolutey be just that, a work in progress. We also realize that there are some who will be unhappy with this move, but after weighing all the facts, it's the right thing to do for all involved. Once an initial disribution date can be confirmed we will announce a date when this flywheel be allowed for competition. I hope that I have answered most of the questions you might have, if not I'll do my best to do so. Again thank you all for what each of you mean to this great sport of Karting.
Its sad that I go to a gas pump every day and dont know what the octane level is... And yeah mixinmaster he uses BP as the regulator for our class. And dont tell Renfro anything..he will tell everybody!!! I told Randall I kept my receipt from Saturday for my gas...If mine is hot its in my generator too!!!
The Box Stock Clone rules are AKRA box stock on the motor, open clutch rule, big header. Tire rule for flat karts is Burris B33A, or SS-33A, not SS-33's.
Champ karts are any Burris 55's, but there are no clone classes for them.
I apoligize if this is already addressed in another thread, but I have looked and cannot find it specifically. Are the clone engine rules that are followed at the track the AKRA rules? Any additional engine or chassis rules? Tire rules? Clutch, cam, flywheel, etc rules? Thanks in advance to any and all that can take the time to respond.
